SCOPE
Blue Sky Maritime Coalition provided a detailed response to the DOE's request for information to obtain public input in support of DOE’s Hydrogen Energy Earthshot initiative to enable low-cost, clean hydrogen at scale. Members participated in the Hydrogen Shot Summit and continuing dialogue to position maritime decarbonization needs for future funding opportunites. Hydrogen is the first in a series of Energy Earthshots to be launched by DOE to look beyond incremental advances and aim, instead, at the game-changing breakthroughs that will secure American leadership in enabling net-zero carbon technologies and support sustainable development around the world, to the benefit of all Americans. The information provided was intended to assist DOE’s Hydrogen Program in further defining the scope and priorities of its initiatives to accelerate the production, storage, delivery, and end use of clean, affordable hydrogen in the United States. Specifically, the RFI sought input on viable hydrogen demonstration and deployment projects that enable clean hydrogen production, infrastructure and end use to reduce emissions, create jobs, and enable a net-zero carbon emissions economy by 2050.
EXPECTED OUTCOMES
Awareness by the DOE on the mission and goals of the Blue Sky Maritime Coalition and potential maritime Hydrogen pilots and demonstration projects that could be used for DOE internal planning and decision making purposes as it considers possible proposals for its research, development, demonstration and deployment (RDD&D) portfolio.
CURRENT STATUS
UPCOMING
Outreach to other regions that are organizing for DOE Hydrogen Hub funding opportunities. BSMC can offer port and maritime demonstration project ideas and expertise to potential hubs.
