SCOPE

Provide matching funds and in-kind support from BSMC membership to develop testing/validation of a terrestrial grid for green hydrogen production and refueling infrastructure – by optimally utilizing nearby renewable energy for powering the intracoastal marine vessels along the  waterways of the East Coast, Gulf Coast and large inland rivers and waterbodies that interconnect to provide pathways for large volumes of commerce and trade via marine vessels.

EXPECTED OUTCOMES

(1) A feasibility analysis and hardware-based evaluation for establishing hydrogen infrastructure along the intracoastal Great Loop; and (2) to test, develop, de-risk and deploy hydrogen-powered, resilient shipboard power systems that can be used to reduce the emissions of the marine transportation sector.

CURRENT STATUS

COMPLETED

The proposal was submitted but award notices have not yet been issued. Letter of support issued and match funding offered by the Coalition and various member organizations on July 19, 2021.

UPCOMING

If awarded, member engagement needed to help shape maritime applications for inland waterway hydrogen utilization opportunities.
